The CSI Synod centre has become a model Eco Centre by implementing the various eco projects which they have been implementing in their educational institutions all over India. The following projects have been implemented in CSI synod Centre.
Treatment Plant & Ground water recharging
The plant purifies 20,000 liters of water per day which is being used for non-domestic purposes at the centre. The sewage water treatment plant has a unique aerator which absorbs atmospheric air and directly oxidizes the sump. This is a unique sewage treatment plant, which has separate chambers for primary and secondary aeration settling with dual media filtration. Aeration process is being carried out through Imported Aeration equipment having high oxygen transfer efficiency. This treated water is used for ground water recharging and for gardening and farming purposes.
Rainwater Harvesting
The Synod campus also has Rain Water Restoration Tubes to increase the ground water level added.
Solar Grid System
The solar panel grid system installed on the roof-top meets 65% of the consumption of the electricity. The 272 solar panels generate 100 KW of electricity per day.
Waste converter [OWC] (up to 200 Kg per day)
Organic Waste converter converts all organic waste into stable organic fertilizer. It is quick, efficient and odour-free. Input can be 50% wet waste and 50% dry garden waste. Through its mechanism, the Organic Waste is converted into a smooth, homogenized, odour-free raw compost within 15 minutes by a biomechanical process.
Compost Curing System
The curing system stabilizes the raw compost through controlled aerobic microbial decomposition. The system doesn’t draw on electricity to produce the heat that is so crucial to the decomposition process. The heat is generated intrinsically by bacteria of the thermophilic variety. This simply means that the resulting fertilizer is microbial-rich and full of nutrients. The organic fertilizer is ready within two weeks and can be used immediately in the garden and for farming &landscaping needs.
Steam Boiler
Steam Boiler is a multi-purpose equipment which runs with gas or fire wood. Using the gas model, it initially takes 40 minutes for getting steam later it take 15 to 20 minutes in preparing Rice Cooking.
Reverse-Osmosis Drinking Water Plant
The RO Drinking water plant installed at the CSI Synod center provides good quality drinking water and hence avoids the purchase of bottled drinking water
"The CSI has been implementing visionary and environmentally conscious initiatives across the dioceses and received an award from UNDP in 2009for its long term green ventures", said Rev. Dr D RathnakaraSadananda, the General Secretary of CSI Synod.
"Various green initiatives commenced on the Synod campus have earned the distinction of being one of the best green campuses, for conserving our mother earth", the Hon. Treasurer of CSI Synod, Adv. Robert C Bruce added.
"The Church of South India (CSI) is the only church in India, which has mentioned ecology as a mission in its Constitution as well as in its Mission statement. We promote sustainable development practices and to build power for change.", said CSI Moderator, Most Rev Thomas K Oommen.
